Each year, the board of Social Enterprise Solutions presents one social enterprise with the Hirst Prize.
The award celebrates the work of Clive Hirst who helped establish the company in 2006 when the travel of direction was towards charity, he championed social enterprise where community companies trade for the social good.
The current recipient of the prize in Blackpool-based Urban Organic CIC. Headed by expert gardener Alan Hulme, the company is involved in a range of social activities that help alleviate social isolation, breaking down social barriers and encouraging inclusivity in the community.
The first recipients were His Provision CIC which works in the community in Blackpool to help those in desperate need of vital supplies through a food bank, accommodation for those in need and families in need of a community cafe.
Clive presented the team at His Provision CIC with a trophy and a share of the company’s profits, in line with its commitments to the community as a social enterprise.
Meanwhile, Spiral Health CIC was chosen in 2017 as an exemplar of social enterprise.
The former NHS dept has adapted to life outside of the health service and continues to grow with new, innovative services.
